Key Areas Addressed By Formate

  • Capture output from your legacy application in a variety of ways including file submission or through a virtual printer, so normally no changes will be required to your legacy applications.
  • Modify standard printed output into the required format e.g. add or remove fields, incorporate logos, change fonts, add signatures or bar-codes, consolidate multiple pages onto fewer pages or expand the data onto more pages, sort data and/or pages, and include data from external database lookups.
  • Print to any technology of printer supported by Windows (e.g. laser, thermal, inkjet, dot matrix or digital copier), in colour if the printer supports it.
  • Automatically send faxes, emails, PDFs, MS-Word documents, Excel workbooks, XML files, and HTML web pages.
  • Distribute information to where it's needed.
  • Allow users to view documents electronically.
  • Conditional processing allows documents to be tailored to your customers needs (i.e. every customer can receive a personalised version of the document).
  • Send documents to an archiving or document management system - specific support is included for Alchemy, but most systems could be used (see the Alchemy White Paper).
  • Reduce ERP implementation time.
  • Batch sort print runs to save postage costs (using the built-in Mailsort routines), or sort multiple documents into a specified order.
  • Accept various data types, including ASCII line printer, XML, CSV, AS/400 spool queue, or IBM SCS.

How does Formate grab data from the host?

Formate software runs on an MS-Windows NT/2000/XP/2003 platform and continually monitors a user definable watch folder or virtual printer(s). Users simply direct spool queue output at the designated watch folder or virtual printer and Formate automatically recognizes the print file and processes it accordingly. Formate can also accept data from virtually any system on the network, for example Unix, NT, and IBM AS/400 or mainframe, as well as XML files, Excel workbooks, MS-Word documents, or plain text files. Incoming data can also be accepted via emails, which are read automatically from one or more designated POP3 mailboxes and processed according to your requirements (the properties of the email such as its subject, from address, body etc. are available, as are any attachments ).
